Kiwanis Horses for Handicapped is a private non-profit program, for the purpose of promoting and teaching therapeutic horseback riding for the handicapped. This is done with the help of parents, professionals, and volunteers from every walk of life.
Horseback riding is recognized as one
of the most beneficial forms of recreational therapy the handicapped
can receive. It develops self awareness, builds self confidence
and improves concentration and self discipline. When handicapped
children are placed on a horse, their spirits soar as they
react to the sensation of being on a height above others.
Furthermore, horseback riding improves posture, balance and
coordination, plus increases mobility of joints.
Seminole Kiwanians, along with many other Division 13 volunteers and professionals, sponsor this program on Saturday mornings (9-12) in Seminole. If you are new to Kiwanis, you may
contact us at 727-397-8669 to help as a volunteer.
